After searching extensively for a well designed antenna mounting bracket for my amateur (Ham) radio antenna, I came across a great mount at Right Channel Radios. It is the most discreet and easy to Hood Mount I have ever seen for my 2003 Chevy Tahoe. The fit and location are perfect! After finding the mounting bracket, I had thought I may have to modify the opening from 3/8" to 3/4" to accept an NMO antenna mount. However, I emailed Right Channel Radios and received a prompt reply from Pat Haggerty, who not only answered questions about my needs, but provided an option for an NMO coax cable which would fit the Hood Mount perfectly. I ordered them both and have just finished the installation. I couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out.

Due to work commitments I have not had a chance to install it yet. Order was shipped in two parts. The antenna took seven days to get to me, but it is very nice.

I use the mount for ham radio, and I had to drill out the antenna mount hole to ⅝ inch to accommodate a UHF style mount. I suggest you offer a mount with a ⅝ hole for ham use. That being said, it replaced a mount by another seller which did not provide a good ground, resulting in a very high SWR and damage to the RG-174 cable. This mount connects to solid metal that is connected to the frame and provides an excellent ground.

The Wilson base load performs well with the President Bill am/fm 11 meter radio. A spring at top of the bas load would be great, but there is not an application that will accommodate that addition. I’m very pleased with the 1.05 SWR and will consider other similar applications.
